Welcome

Manitoba’s First Nations schools have prioritized literacy and numeracy as areas that require key focus, as they are two of the most important building blocks for students’ lifelong learning. Therefore, MFNERC has many literacy and numeracy facilitators who work directly with schools, as well as support other literacy and numeracy projects.

Our literacy and numeracy facilitators help develop resources and provide professional development to teachers through training, round tables and workshops. They also assist teachers with implementing curriculum, and work collectively to support schools with implementing the Provincial Assessment Process, and create culturally relevant resources including Mental Math and Problem Solving booklets, and Grade 8 Literacy Units on IdentityWater Stewardship, and Residential Schools.

About

LiteracyEducationLiteracy is a process by which one expands one’s knowledge of reading and writing in order to develop one’s thinking and learning for the purpose of understanding oneself and the world. This process is fundamental to achieving competence in every educational subject.
